Code 39 generator

This page explains what a Code 39 is used for, what the encoded text looks like, and how to make one. The generator runs entirely on your device.

How to make a Code 39

Three steps:

  1. Open the generator and pick Code 39.
  2. Fill in the fields — the preview updates as you type.
  3. Download PNG for screens, or SVG for anything going to print.

Example

Scanners recognise this content by its prefix, so the text has to be formatted exactly. The generator handles the escaping — a Wi-Fi password containing a semicolon, for instance, breaks a hand-written payload.

Practical tips

  • Print on white and keep the bars black. Scanners read reflectance, not colour.
  • Do not stretch the barcode horizontally — the bar widths carry the data. Change the bar width setting instead.
  • Leave clear space either side of the bars, at least ten times the narrow bar width.
